What is the best age for Disneyland? – Rookie Moms

by Vaibhav Sharda

Are you a first-time mom who is wondering when the best time is to take your baby on a trip to Disneyland? Have you heard that babies under one year old are not allowed at the park, even though it’s only a 15 minute drive from your home? Is Disneyland a place you would like to introduce your child to before he or she is too old? This article will inform you about how old your baby should be before taking him or her to Disneyland and provide some tips on when you should go.

As a mother of two, I know how crazy it can get when you’re trying to get ready for a vacation with small kids. I was just going to Disneyland with my kids and I was in a panic – I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss out on the magic. But, then I found this blog post.

It’s no secret that kids and Disneyland go together like peanut butter and chocolate. But as most parents know, there are so many factors that can affect whether or not your child is ready to go to the Happiest Place on Earth. Here are a few tips to help you decide.

When I tell people we went to the Magic Kingdom for Thanksgiving, they often ask whether their kid is old enough for a first visit. Mr. Honea, a father of two sons who seems to be a local expert, has a nice response. He believes that “every age is a wonderful age.”

Here’s one caveat: it’s not so much about the age as it is about the temperament.

Scarlett isn’t insane, but getting strapped in an odd-looking vehicle to enter a dark tunnel where she has no clue what could happen to her isn’t appealing to her. As a result, several rides, including age-appropriate ones like the iconic Peter Pan (up, up, and away!) and the (new-to-my-generation) Winnie The Pooh ride, are no longer available.

She’s getting close to that nail-biter. It’s a Small World, after all.

Rides like the Tea Cups and Dumbo, where you can see precisely what you’ve signed up for, were pure joy. Both youngsters chose Autopia, a completely outdoor attraction, as their favorite of the day.

But, notwithstanding, this is only an issue if your whole day’s anticipation is centered on the rides. Two trips to Disneyland as a parent, each with an uniquely programmed first-timer, have taught me that the park is much more than rides. It’s a really beautiful location. Walking along Main Street seems like you’re in a Hallmark movie, with everything gleaming and spotless and a soft glee (but not Glee) music drifting through the air.

Disneyland’s holiday season is particularly special, with additional lights on Sleeping Beauty’s castle and a spectacular parade. (My kids were so enthralled by this procession that it was a bit perplexing.)

Scarlett begged me to take her out of the area where she could see Snow White (who I thought she loved?! ), Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty all at once. Her response didn’t surprise me, but it did let me down. I wanted to see her face light up when she discovered that dreams do come true, or that wishes taste like bubble gum, or that bubble gum never clings to your hair at Disneyland, or anything along those lines.

Ryan and I went in to the day with the intention of staying as long as the kids continued to be into it, possibly well after their bedtime, but at about 6.30 PM we could see that they were done. We ate dinner on the premises, purchased the requisite t shirts, and headed home in the Ford Explorer (<— product placement!) we had borrowed for the week.

After all, it was a fairly enjoyable experience, particularly for my non-anxious child. Scarlett boasted to her grandmother the next morning about all she had seen and done, omitting the times she had shaken her head, “No,” or trembled in her boots. She may agree with you if you ask her whether Disneyland is the Happiest Place on Earth. However, she may claim that the center of Mommy and Daddy’s bed at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning is that location.

A couple of additional points:

  • Many of the females at the park are dressed as princesses. You may wish to bring one if you believe your kid would be envious of this information (like mine was).
  • We had made up our minds to travel to Disneyland and would have paid for the tickets ourselves, but I was asked to utilize media credentials, which I gratefully accepted.
  • When I went online for help, I came across this site, which offers some great suggestions for first-time visitors.
  • Disneyland’s cuisine really surpassed my expectations. I wouldn’t go there for dinner every night, but my kids had pizza with apple slices and carrots for lunch and quesadillas or burritos with rice and beans for supper. I’d say it was just as delicious as what they eat at home, and I was completely satisfied with my meal. For lunch, my spouse and I both ordered salads. His was garden-variety chicken, whereas mine was Asian chicken. It’s all good.

As we spend that week in Los Angeles visiting family anyway, I’d want to maintain traveling to Disneyland as a Thanksgiving ritual every other year, or maybe every year as the kids get more out of it. Space Mountain, how are you?

Have you have any experience as a parent? Are you DESIRING to go? Do you believe your child is prepared?

As a rookie mom, you don’t have a lot of time to get to know Disneyland because there’s so much to do while on vacation. So, I decided to do a little research and find out what the best age is for visiting Disneyland. The research is pretty simple: I looked at the crowds, the cost, the food and a few other factors. Of course, there are many factors that contribute to the popularity of Disneyland, but I found the following to be the most crucial..
